How to get started on this platform
What is an Assembly?
An assembly is a group of members of an organization (e.g. an EDA, a policy caucus, a working group, an advisory council, etc.) who meet periodically to make decisions about a specific area or scope of the organization.
Assemblies—often, but not always, properly constituted— hold meetings, some are private and some are open. If they are open, it is possible to participate in them (e.g. attending if the capacity allows it, adding items to the agenda, or commenting on the proposals and decisions taken by this body).
Assemblies are a core feature of Decidim (this website) so it's something worth taking the time to understand.
Let the blueocean team know if you would like to get started using the Greens Connect platform for EDA or Regional organizing or if you would like to start learning more about Sociocracy techniques for collaboration and decision making.
As a Green Party of Canada member/volunteer we really hope that you will see the value of the greensconnect.ca platform as a place to organize your GPC efforts and a place to COLLABORATE with other member/volunteers in a way that puts values first and demonstrates "doing politics differently".

greensconnect.ca is NOT just an online software platform, it is purpose-built to support transparent, participatory democracy and is provided to you as an expression of our intention to "do politics differently" within the Party as well as in our public interactions.
The Values and Principles espoused by the blueocean initiative are just as important to the success of this platform as the software itself.
Why are Values and Principles so key?
- Basing our politics and culture on a firm foundation
- Preparing our defenses against cynical post-factual politics
- Connecting volunteers in an effective and empowering space
You can read more about blueocean values and principles on the blueocean page here.
Sociocracy 3.0 (S3) is a "social technology" set of techniques for managing action-oriented collaboration and decision-making that we believe will help us to actually IMPLEMENT our Values and Principles on greensconnect.ca. S3 techniques have been designed to help grow agile and resilient organizations.
- Enables effective collaboration
- Helps us successfully navigate disagreement
- Focuses group wisdom to help make better decision
- Allows both organization and people to thrive
We therefore ask you to review THIS PRESENTATION on blueocean and S3 to better understand how we hope to have this space reflect our Green Values and Principles.
You can also start learning more about S3 principles and techniques here.
Finally, if you have any questions or concerns about the greensconnect.ca platform, please read the FAQs.
